Eindejaarsgrafiek Jakob Smitsmuseum

01/12/15

The large print work Prieeltje, that I made for the summer exhibition M.art Interpreteert Smits in the Jakob Smitsmuseum, has been turned into 20 unique, signed parts and is now available for sale to benefit the museum. Each print measures 42 x 58 cm and consists of straw in block print ink on Simili japon paper. An example can be viewed in the museum and the work can also be purchased there. An article was published on the local council website and one in the magazine of the museum. I will upload a scan of it soon.

Blog post for the Pangaea project

04/04/15

Started by South African explorer Mike Horn, the Pangaea young explorers program is a project that aims to get young people involved in nature conservation and social projects. After having participated in an exhibition to Fiordland, an uninhabited part of New Zealand, when I was 16, it has shaped a lot of my choices in life, including my decision to pursue art. Therefore I really enjoyed the chance to write about why art is important to me as a means of expressing a critical view on people's (including myself) relationship with nature. You can read my blog post here.

One of my poems recently got selected to be part of the poetry trail in the 'Klankenbos', a forest full of sound art installations in Neerpelt, Belgium. You can visit the forest for free to enjoy the poetry trail and various sound art installations by artists from all over the world. More information about the poetry competition can be found here, information about the Klankenbos here. For the celebration of 10 years Klankenbos there will be a publication later in 2015 that will also contain my poem.

White block initiative starts its second year

10/03/15

The White Block Initiative, which organizes after school art classes and exhibition opportunities for the pupils of Cloetesville High School, had the first class of its second year today. Some of last year's enthousiastic pupils were there again, and they were also joined by many new aspiring artists. I am very excited to see this project continue to grow. Ever since we started it as 4 art students from Stellenbosch university in the beginning of last year, we have seen our pupils evolve into confident young artists who really enjoy what they do. This year will hopefully bring even more joy and opportunities.
